Hama - SMART

On Sunday, the local council in the city of Kafr Zaita in Hama, Central Syria, issued a statement accusing the Syrian government of lying when they claimed there will be no chemical attacks in the city.

The council said in a statement that the Syrian government was wrong to accuse the Civil Defense of fabricating a rescue of civilians injured in a chemical attack. The Civil Defense said that the Syrian government intends to bomb the city with chemical weapons.

The local council called upon the United Nations and UN Security Council to deter the Syrian government from using traditional and chemical weapons against Syrians, and to hold the Syrian government accountable for committing war crimes.

The local council called on residents to be careful of the Syrian government's "treachery." The local council noted that the city of Kafr Zaita is almost entirely destroyed and lacks medical clinics and Civil Defense headquarters due to the Syrian government forces' bombings.

On Saturday, the Free Syrian Army (FSA) accused the Syrian government forces of preparing to use chemical weapons in the Idlib governorate, Northern Syria. The FSA based the accusations on the Syrian government and Russia's allegations that the Civil Defense fabricated a Syrian government chemical attack in the area.

The FSA accusations come as the Syrian government sends military reinforcements to Idlib, Hama, and Latakia after threatening to storm the areas outside the Syrian government forces' control in Central and Northern Syria.
