Daraa - SMART

The camps for forcibly displaced people (FDP) closed in Western Daraa and Quneitra after the Syrian government forces seized Southern Syria.

On Sunday, local sources reported that the camps closed because local and international organizations stopped providing support after the Syrian government forces seized the area. The FDP returned to their houses in Damascus, Rif Dimashq, and Daraa.

The sources added that the FDP in the camps in Quneitra and Western Daraa sold or moved their tents upon leaving the camps; however, some FDP who were forced to hire houses or settle in under-construction apartments waited to be resettled by the Syrian government in Rif Dimashq.

Eyewitnesses said that there a few families in the camps waiting for the reconciliation decision issued by the Syrian government security services.

In recent years, camps for FDP from Southern Damascus and Rif Dimashq have spread in Daraa and Quneitra. The FDP suffered from the lack of support, poor medical care and services in general.

The Syrian Red Crescent provided aid when Syrian government seized areas in Quneitra. The administration of the camps in Quneitra appealed to aid organizations to support thousands of FDP amidst limited response when the Free Syrian Army controlled the area.
