Aleppo - SMART

The commander of the al-Sultan Suleiman Shah Brigade, who was accused of raping a woman in the Afrin area, Northern Aleppo, Northern Syria, said that he is willing to appear before the court to fight the accusations.

On Sunday, the brigade commander known as Abu Amshah reported that the Turkish forces did not inform him of any decisions regarding the rape accusations, as activists rumored that Turkey will run a DNA test during the case investigations.

Adel al-Bahjat, a member of the investigation committee, said that the committee took the statements of the alleged raped woman and her husband, adding that the role of the committee has ended as the people decided to hand the case to the Military Police and the public prosecutor's office.

On Aug. 23, 2018, the National Syrian Army's command formed a committee to investigate the case, in which a woman, Israa Khalil, accused the commander of the al-Sultan Suleiman Shah Brigade, Abu Amshah, of raping her several times after tricking her husband, who is a fighter in the brigade.

Fighters and commanders of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) face accusations of breaches against civilians in the FSA-controlled areas of Eastern and Northern Aleppo.
