Deir ez-Zor - SMART

On Monday, the Syrian government forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reached an agreement to open the crossing of the village of al-Salihiya, 87 kilometers south of Deir ez-Zor, Eastern Syria.

Local sources noted that the crossing connects the Seven Kilometers Roundabout, which is controlled by the SDF, with the village of al-Salihiya, which is controlled by the Syrian government forces.

The sources noted that Russian military police and the Syrian government military security will manage the crossing instead of the Iranian al-Quds Brigade.

The sources added that the aim of opening the crossing is to facilitate civilians' return to their houses on the Western bank of the Euphrates river, which is controlled by the Syrian government forces.

In mid-August 2018, Russia took over the administration of the river crossings between areas controlled by the Syrian government forces and loyalist militias, and those controlled by the SDF in Deir ez-Zor.
