Director of Cries from Syria film: "Western world is almost oblivious to the reasons behind the Syrian migration"

On Monday, Evgeny Afineevsky, director of the film Cries from Syria, said, "Western world is almost oblivious to the reasons behind the biggest migration crisis of the 21st century."

The American director, who has Russian origin, told SMART by e-mail about the film that is nominated for an international award. He said, "The film is a cinematic document and tribute to the Syrian people, and their bravery in the face of unspeakable tortures, horrible massacres, and foreign invasions."

Afineevsky added that the film also "focuses on child protesters who survived   the Syrian government massacres, revolution icons, activists and their relatives, who survived assassinations, high-ranking Army Generals who defected, and joined the fight of the people."

He added, "(In the film) We tell the story of children who experienced hunger, survived starvation and witnessed death through countless attacks, including chemical weapons and barrel bombs, but never lost hope."

Afineevsky said that this film would take the audience on a five-year journey from Syria to Turkey, through Jordan, Lebanon and into Europe. They will see the situation from the inside out, through the eyes of trapped people. 

SMART New Agency, which is represented by four of its members, including its board chairman, has been part of the film through the Executive Department and Video Production Management.

Cries from Syria has been nominated for several Emmy Awards, which the best reward for international television programs. They are the best documentary on current issues, the best research, best writing, best music, and voice.
