Idlib - SMART

Armed robbers stole 12 million Syrian pounds and foreign currencies from an exchange dealer and tried to kidnap him from the city of Kafr Nubl, 36 kilometers south of Idlib, Northern Syria.

A witness told SMART that seven masked gunmen in a van pointed their weapons on the exchange dealer, Mohammed al-Hanak, while he was opening his shop in Kafr Nubl. They said that they belonged to the security office of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).

The eyewitness added that the gunmen stole al-Hanak's bag, which held 12 million SYP and an unknown amount of US dollars and other foreign currencies. The gunmen tried to kidnap him, but were interrupted when one of the neighboring shop owners attacked them.

Earlier, thieves stabbed a woman, killing her, in the city of Sarmin after they entered her house and stole her jewelry. The kidnappers have not been found yet.

The robberies are part of a series of crimes amid the lack of security in the governorate of Idlib, where assassinations, explosions and thefts have increased.
