Idlib - SMART

On Monday, the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) detained a trader from the village of al-Ghadaqa in the Marrat al-Nu'man area, 32 kilometers south of Idlib, Northern Syria, accusing him of promoting reconciliation with the Syrian government.

The HTS is an Islamist opposition faction previously known as the al-Nusra Front, consisting of fighting groups including the Haqq Brigade, Jabhat Ansar al-Din, and Jaysh al-Sunnah. The HTS is mainly operating in Idlib and its countryside and the countryside of Aleppo.

Activists reported that the civilian trader is a displaced man from the city of Murek in Hama and work as pistachio trader. The HTS detained the trader during a security campaign against "reconciliation units."

Earlier this month, the HTS detained dozens of people accused of promoting reconciliations and dealing with the Syrian government in several areas in the countrysides of Aleppo and Idlib.

Last July, factions from the Free Syrian Army, Islamist battalions, and local councils in the governorates of Aleppo and Idlib threatened to kill everyone who promotes reconciliations with the Syrian government.
