Daraa - SMART

The Syrian government forces' checkpoint, deployed in several areas in the governorate of Daraa, Southern Syria, impose royalties between 1000-1500 Syrian pounds on the civilians passing through them.

On Thursday, a local source told SMART that the Syrian government forces impose royalties on civilians and traders vehicles, demanding them to pay publicly. People who do not pay are not allowed to pass.

The source, who refused to be identified for security reasons, said that there are many checkpoints located between the cities and villages, including Tzeil, Sahem, Golan and Da'al and others.

The source explained that who passes on more than one checkpoint has to pay to each one of them. He may pay up to 5,000 SYP and more.

The source stated that if a large number of civilians or figures have a role in the governorate take action, then it is possible to change the checkpoint's members and to cancel the royalties, as what happened at the checkpoint between the cities of Nawa and Jassim.

A few weeks ago, the military factions in the governorate of Daraa signed agreements with Russia. The agreements included handing over of weapons, a cease-fire and the evacuation of those who rejected the "settlement" to Northern Syria.
