Thousands of people protest against potential military operation by Syrian government

On Friday, thousands of people protested in several cities and towns in the governorate of Idlib, Northern Syria. The protesters condemned the military operation that the Syrian government threatened to launch on Idlib.  

Hundreds of people, including officials from the salvation Government, protested in the city of Idlib, to confirm that the Syrian Revolution will continue and to support the opposition military factions in their battle against the Syrian government and Russia. The protesters also condemned the statements of Staffan De Mistura, the United Nations Envoy to Syria.  

On Thursday, De Mistura stated that the UN estimates that around 10,000 "terrorists" remain in northern Idlib. De Mistura suggested securing humanitarian corridors.

Muhamad al-Sheikh, the former president of the Salvation Government, who also participated in the protest, said, "We say to those who colluded against us, the international community, Russia, and the United States, you will not harm us, because we gave our souls to god (…) cohesion between the factions and the people will break all your weapons."  

In the city of Maarrat al-Nu'man, southern Idlib, more than one thousand locals protested and shouted against the Syrian government. The protesters also expressed their refusal to entering any loyalist forces to Idlib and asked the opposition factions to be unified and be prepared for the attack.   

The protesters raised banners that read, "Your war is for international roads and our war is for our dignity and freedom," and, the people want to overthrow the regime."  

Other protests arose in the cities and towns of Khan Shaykhun, Sarmada, al-Dana, Ariha, Saraqib, Jirjinaz, Jisr al-Shughur, Kafr Nubl, al-Hbeit, Maarshurin, al-Ghada, Kafruma, Maarratmisrin, Harem, al-Tah, Kafr Owayed, Marrat al-Shalf, Binnish, Darkush, and Izmarin.   

Over the past week, the Syrian government sent military reinforcements to the perimeter of the Idlib governorate. A commander from the Free Syrian Army accused the Syrian government of preparing for a chemical attack on Idlib. Western countries threatened to attack the Syrian government in case of using.   

Turkey said that it seeks to secure and protect four million people residing in Idlib before the deactivation of the de-escalation agreement, concluded by Turkey, Russia, and Iran. After the agreement, Turkey created 12 military outposts in Idlib to supervise the activation of the agreement.   

On Friday, hundreds of people protested in the Aleppo governorate, expressing solidarity with the Idlib governorate and demanding the FSA to be unified and to be prepared for any potential attack by the loyalist forces.
