Al-Raqqa - SMART

On Saturday, the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) created a new checkpoint at the entrance of the city of al-Raqqa near the village of al-Jazra. The YPG created the checkpoint after clashes that occurred the last night between unknown armed people and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The SDF are the military forces of the Kurdish Autonomous Administration in Northern Syria, founded in 2015. The main component of the SDF is the YPG.

Local sources reported that the YPG created a new checkpoint on Saturday morning at the city's entrance near al-Jazra, as the YPG members searched all cars and asked for identity cards. The members imposed more security procedures on people with a criminal record and veiled women.

The sources added that creating the checkpoint came after clashes that occurred on Friday night between five unknown armed people and a security patrol of the SDF in the al-Adkhar area in the city of al-Raqqa.

The sources also said that the armed people shot the patrol and injured a member. Clashes occurred between both parties in the al-Jazra area. The members of the SDF's patrol detained one of the armed people, as the others managed to escape.

On Friday, unknown armed people killed an SDF member near the village of al-Hsewah, Western al-Raqqa. Earlier, clashes between unknown armed people and the SDF on the al-Salhabiah checkpoint injured an SDF member. Several similar incidents occurred against the SDF either by unknown armed people or by Islamic State's members.
