On Monday, the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) announced arresting leaders of the Islamic State (IS) in the governorate of Idlib, Northern Syria.

The HTS is an Islamist opposition faction previously known as the al-Nusra Front, consisting of fighting groups including the Haqq Brigade, Jabhat Ansar al-Din, and Jaysh al-Sunnah.

The HTS media quoted its security official as saying that they arrested the IS' General Director, nicknamed Abu Dawood al-Iraqi, and his deputy, nicknamed Shayeb, in a trap in the city of Sarmada.

The security official added that they seized weapons, explosives, radio communication equipment, detonators, and machine guns designed for assassinations in the area of al-Wahila in the countryside of Aleppo, after al-Iraqi admitted to his role during investigations.

The HTS continues to arrest people part of "sleeper cells" of the IS, as it said. Last May, the HTS launched a security campaign targeting IS formations in the cities of Dana and Sarmada, and imposed a curfew in a number of areas because the IS presence.

Unknown persons have carried out several explosive devices and car bombs explosions in Idlib, targeting military leaders and fighters in the Free Syrian Army and civilians, killing and wounding dozens of them.
