Al-Raqqa - SMART

On Wednesday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested young men for participating in a demonstration in the town of Khatounia, 8 kilometers west of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria. The protesters demanded the improvement of public services in the region.

An exclusive source from Khatounia told SMART that residents organized a demonstration calling for the improvement of the living and service conditions in the town. The source stated that there are about 40 humanitarian relief organizations operating there, but most of the people do not receive aid because the aid is distributed randomly.

The source added that the SDF members arrested about 16 men after the demonstration, which called for eliminating corruption, holding thieves accountable, and improving services, especially in light of the poor agricultural production this year. Another source said that the reason for their arrest was that they attacked public security members of the SDF.

Earlier, the Asayish forces of the Kurdish Autonomous Administration arrested people in the wake of explosions that targeted their members in the city of al-Raqqa. Security checks also took place in the city after clashes between SDF and unknown people. Unknown persons or the Islamic State continue to target members of the SDF.
