Idlib - SMART

Suspected Russian airstrikes destroy the only school in the village of al-Badria near the town of Mahambel, 13 kilometers south of Idlib, Northern Syria.

On Wednesday, the school manager Muhammad Saloum reported that suspected Russian warplanes bombed the primary school of al-Badria on Tuesday. Saloum noted that the bombing destroyed the entire school, depriving 125 pupils of their education.

Saloum added that the Russian warplanes bombed schools in the villages of al-Sahun, Sarayrif, and Jadraya. Saloum noted that the bombing damaged the schools, forcing them to close.

Saloum added that the cost of the schools' reconstruction is estimated at 8,000 US dollars.

On Tuesday, the Free Idlib Educational Directorate suspended schools and educational compounds in the Jisr al-Shughur district for one day due to the bombing on the school of al-Badria and the killing and injury of civilians.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that Russian warplanes did not bomb residential areas. The ministry added, "We only bombed the extremist al-Nusra Front faction's outposts," according to Reuters.

On Tuesday, Russian and Syrian government forces' intense airstrikes hit towns and cities in Idlib, killing 14 civilians and injuring 31 others.

The Idlib governorate in Northern Syria is included in the de-escalation agreement, which the guarantor states Russia, Iran, and Turkey renewed in the last round of the Astana Talks.
