Al-Raqqa - SMART

The Asayish security forces belonging to the Kurdish Autonomous Administration in the al-Raqqa governorate, Northeastern Syria, tighten the security grip on former prisoners whom the Asayish released from prisons after accusing them of being Islamic State (IS) members.

On Thursday, sources from the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) and Asayish reported that the Asayish launched a security campaign against IS members after the IS commander Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi delivered a speech a week ago, calling on IS supporters to activate the IS groups in al-Raqqa.

The Asayish rearrested two people in the village of Hawi al-Hawa, 6 kilometers west of al-Raqqa. The two people were prisoners in the Asayish prisons for four months on charges of being IS members, according to a local source.

A source from the Asayish reported that they raided a house in the al-Idikhar neighborhood in al-Raqqa and found rifles' nuzzles, magazines, light machine guns, two ammunition boxes, and cortex wires used in producing explosives. The source noted the Asayish found no suspects in the house.

On Wednesday, the al-Raqqa civil council issued a decision to close stores from 10:00 pm until 5:00 am in all of al-Raqqa.

Unknown gunmen and IS members continue to attack YPG fighters in al-Raqqa.
