Al-Raqqa, SMART

On Thursday, the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) formed the Joint Autonomous Administration in Northern and Eastern Syria. The SDC elected a joint presidency of the General Council and Executive Committee.

The SDC, which is the political wing of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said in a statement that they elected Siham Qario and Farid Ati for the presidency of the General Council of the Joint Autonomous Administration, and Berivan Muhammad and Abd Hamed al-Mihbash for the presidency of the Executive Committee.

The SDC announced the Joint Autonomous Administration in the city of Ain Issa, Northern al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria. Seventy members of the Civil Administration from areas controlled by the SDF in al-Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor, and al-Hasakah, attended the formation ceremonies.  The statement added that representatives of the Afrin area, from which the SDF were expelled following clashes with the Free Syrian Army and Turkish troops, also attended the ceremonies.

The SDC formed the Joint Autonomous Administration in Northern and Eastern Syria as the SDC held two talks sessions with the Syrian government in Damascus to discuss the issue of local administration.

On March 17, 2018, the Founding Council of the Federal Democratic System started federal rule in Kurdish majority areas in Northern Syria; however, local and international sides rejected the federal rule.
