Turkey - SMART

On Monday, President Donald Trump’s national security adviser John Bolton said that the United States, the United Kingdom and France agreed that another use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government forces will result in "a much stronger response.”

After his speech, Bolton said, “We’ve tried to convey the message in recent days that if there’s a third use of chemical weapons, the response will be much stronger,” according to Reuters.

Bolton added, "I can say we’ve been in consultations with the British and the French who have joined us in the second strike and they also agree that another use of chemical weapons will result in a much stronger response."

On Monday, the German Federal Minister of Defense said that Germany is studying the possibility of participating in a military operation against the Syrian government forces if the latter uses chemical weapons in the Idlib governorate, Northern Syria.

On Friday, the US special envoy to Syria said that the US has "evidence" that the Syrian government forces are preparing chemical weapons to assault Idlib. The Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland said that Canada is willing to help retaliate a chemical attack "if necessary."

The Syrian government forces and Russia launched a military escalation in the Idlib and Hama governorates, targeting the region with airstrikes and heavy artillery and missile shelling, killing and injuring dozens of civilians, destroying a Civil Defense center, and displacing a large number of people.
