Al-Suwayda - SMART

Two Lebanese men went missing on their way to the town of Shahba in al-Suwayda, Southern Syria, via the Damascus-al-Suwayda highway.

On Tuesday, local sources told SMART that communication with the two men, Firas Sayegh and Basil Ahmadiyah, was lost after they left Damascus towards the town of Shahba to visit relatives.

Lebanese media reported that initial information points to members of the Syrian government forces being behind the kidnapping. The Lebanese media added that political parties are involved, seeking to release the men.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.

Earlier, a gang kidnapped two members of the Lebanese Hezbollah militia after being taken to al-Suwayda.

People in the governorate of al-Suwayda complain about the spread of thefts and kidnappings, and hold the Syrian government and its policies responsible for what is happening.
