Eighty percent of residents evacuate al-Habit, Idlib due to intense bombings

On Tuesday, 80 percent of the residents of the village of al-Habit, Southern Idlib in Northern Syria, evacuated the village after hundreds of the Russian and Syrian government forces’ airstrikes and artillery bombings hit the village.

Tamam Soufan, a member of the local council of al-Habit, stated that 10, 000 people live in the village, but 80 percent of them mostly women and children fled the village due to the Russian and Syrian government force’ military campaign. Soufan noted that only youths remained in the village.

Soufan added that most of the residents headed for camps on the Turkish border; however, other residents headed for agricultural lands and surrounding villages.

The local council announced al-Habit’s devastation due to the Russian and Syrian government forces’ intense bombings. On Monday, a United Nations official stated that 30,000 people fled bombings in the Idlib governorate, Northern Syria.

The Syrian government forces and Russia continue to escalate their military operations Idlib, killing and injuring dozens of civilians. The bombings also destroyed a Civil Defense headquarters and displaced residents.
