Turkey - SMART

The Russian President Vladimir Putin said that no major military actions are planned in the governorate of Idlib, which is outside Syrian government control, in Northern Syria.

On Wednesday, Putin said, "I have every reason to believe that we will achieve our goals,” referring to the demilitarized zone set up by Russia and Turkey in Idlib, according to Reuters.

Putin added, "And that means, no large scale military actions are expected there (...) Military action for the sake of military action is unnecessary."

On Sept. 17, 2018, the Russian President and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, reached an agreement to establish a "demilitarized zone" in the governorate of Idlib. Later, a Free Syrian Army commander revealed that the area will stretch 15-20 km into their controlled areas and be under Turkish supervision with no patrols of Russian forces.
