Daraa - SMART

An unknown person opened fire at the Abbasiya police station in Daraa, Southern Syria, hours after it opened, amid accusations that the Syrian government is responsible for the incident.

A local source from the city told SMART that the Syrian government forces opened the Abbasiya police station on Wednesday, and deployed a police officer, four members, and two guards to it.

The source added that an unknown person opened fire at the station during the night, while the members hid inside and informed the Negotiations Committee of the incident. The shooter fled.

People from the region accused the Syrian government forces of the shooting, saying that they seek justification for bringing its members into the neighborhoods of Daraa al-Balad, where they were originally not supposed to enter, according to an agreement.

On July 18, 2018, the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Russia reached an agreement in Nawa. The agreement required the handover of the FSA's heavy weapons. The Negotiations Committee then met with a Russian delegation to discuss issues related to the settlement process, followed by another meeting to discuss the withdrawal of the Syrian government forces from Daraa, a nearby industrial area, and Souq al-Hal.

The Syrian government forces have arrested a number of civilians and former FSA fighters. A number of former faction leaders tried to persuade civilians and fighters to join the Syrian government's Fourth Division to fight in Hama.
