Aleppo - SMART

On Friday, the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) withdrew from the village of Kafr Halab, 30 kilometers west of Aleppo, Northern Syria. An agreement required the HTS opposition activists to evacuate from the village.

The HTS is an Islamist opposition faction previously known as the al-Nusra Front, consisting of fighting groups that include the Haqq Brigade, Jabhat Ansar al-Din, and Jaysh al-Sunnah.

Local activists told SMART that the agreement required the HTS opposition activists to leave the village towards the nearby city of al-Atarb, The activists also quoted the local council as saying that the problem has been solved, they did not add any other details.

On social media, activists posted a voice recording attributed to the leader of the Nur al-Din al-Zanki Movement, Tawfiq Shihab al-Din. In the recording, he accused the HTS of planning to launch a campaign against the Islamic State to arrest Syrian National Liberation Front (NLF) fighters and activists.

Shihab al-Din added that they began military action to connect the villages of Kafr Nuran and Kafr Halab to protect their fighters and activists.

Shihab al-Din called for the NLF in Northern Syria to start a large-scale military operation to eliminate the HTS' leader, Abu Muhammad al-Julani.

Earlier on Friday, the HTS tried to storm the village of Kafr Halab using heavy machine guns and other weapons, killing and wounding civilians.
