Deir al-Zor- SMART

The Islamic State (IS) has arrested 50 civilians since the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) launched the recent military campaign against the IS in the village of al-Baghouz, Eastern Deir al-Zor, Eastern Syria.

On Friday, a local source reported that the IS launched arrest campaigns in areas their control, especially in the city of al-Shu’fa and towns of al-Susa and Abu al-Hasan. The source added that the IS arrested dozens of civilians on charges of cooperating with the SDF or smuggling women, who are called captives (Sabaya).

The source added that the IS depends on spies to provide information about these areas. The IS call the spies “the watchful eyes.”

The IS arrest campaigns coincide with a military operation that the International Coalition backed SDF launched against the last IS strongholds in Deir al-Zor, which are the cities of al-Shu’fa and Hajin and villages on the perimeters of the cities.

The IS executed several people from Deir al-Zor on accusations of infidelity, spying for the Free Syrian Army and the International Coalition, blasphemy, and others.
