Deir al-Zor - SMART

Syrian government forces' checkpoints imposed on the civilians traveling between the cities of Abu Kamal and Deir al-Zor, Eastern Syria, fees on their homes furniture and personal properties.

On Friday, a local source told SMART that the checkpoint in the Salhiya village forced a family from the city of Abu Kamal to pay 200,000 Syrian pounds to allow a vehicle carrying their home furniture to cross. The checkpoint also forced the family to pay 1,000 SYP on each bag.

The source said that this incident is repeated on a daily basis with families traveling between the two cities. The source added that the Syrian government forces required obtaining security approval to travel from the city of Albukamal to the city of Deir al-Zor.

Earlier, residents of Deir al-Zor complained of fees imposed by loyalist militias on the roads between the cities of the governorate.
