Homs - SMART

The Syrian government prevented food entry to the al-Rukban camp in the Syrian-Jordanian border area, increasing the suffering of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the camp who live under harsh humanitarian conditions.

On Friday, a local source reported that the Syrian government forces, supported by Russia, continued to siege the al-Rukban camp and prevented the food entry to the camp for the second day in a row as part of the systematic plan to press and speed up the negotiation to dismantle the camp.

The sources added, "The Syrian government is attempting to put pressure to force people to accept its conditions and to win politically, military, and in media means.

Days earlier, dignitaries and representatives of the Syrian government discussed items of an agreement about the IDPs in the al-Rukban camp, including evacuating sick people after adjusting their statuses, sending young men to conscription, and allowing people who refuse to reconcile to Northern Syria.

Activists from the Tadmur District said that the Syrian government blocked roads, especially to the city of al-Dumayr in Rif Dimsahq, to prevent food entry to its controlled areas, causing a lack of flour and increasing goods prices.

Earlier, the Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs said that Russia and Jordan engaged in serious discussions regarding the dismantling of the al-Rukban camp.
