Jableh - SMART

On Friday, riots wounded civilians and Syrian government members after a football match between the Jibleh and al-Nawair teams at the stadium in the city of Jibleh in Latakia, Northwestern Syria.

Witnesses told SMART that six known fans of the Jibleh football team threw stones at civilians, a player from the al-Nawair team, and a Syrian government forces member, wounding them, after the Jibleh team lost the match.

The witnesses added that the fans that accompanied the al-Nawair team from the city of Hama were trapped in the stadium with the players for two hours. The Syrian government members failed to prevent the Jableh team's fans from attacking. The fans of the two teams clashed using stones.

Videos on Facebook showed the fans of the Jableh team destroying the al-Nawair transport buses, blocking roads, and attacking private property around the stadium.

Civilians in Syrian government-controlled areas in Syria complain of chaos and lack security amid the spread of militias, most notably the Shabiha militia, robberies and kidnappings.
