Al-Raqqa - SMART

On Tuesday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested some of their members on charges of deserting their ranks in the governorate of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria.

The SDF is comprised of predominantly Kurdish multi-ethnic, Arab, and Assyrian/Syriac militias led by the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG). The SDF operate mostly in Northern Syria, including al-Raqqa and Deir al- Zor.

A military police source in SDF told SMART that they arrested six members in the village of Heneida (30 kilometers west of al-Raqqa) during a search campaign there.

The source pointed to the possibility of continuing the campaign in the village and surrounding villages, without specifying the time to end.

About one week ago, the YPG arrested 33 SDF members in the city of al-Raqqa on charges of desertion from service.
