Aleppo - SMART

On Tuesday, Free Syrian Army (FSA) factions repelled a People's Protection Units  (YPG) attempt to advance in the area of Burj Haidar near Afrin, 42 kilometers northwest of Aleppo, Northern Syria.

Ahmad al-Ahmad, a member of the media office in the National Liberation Front (NLF), said that on Tuesday night, a group of YPG fighters attempted to infiltrate the NLF's outposts in the Burj Haidar area near the towns of Nubl and al-Zahraa. Al-Ahmad added that their fighters repelled the YPG's advances and forced them to withdraw.

Al-Ahmad noted that YPG fighters frequently attempt to infiltrate areas near the villages of Burj Haidar, Ba'i, Basoufan, and Kabashin as they are close to the YPG's outposts. The Syrian government forces are stationed in the adjacent towns of Nubl and al-Zahraa.

Al-Ahmad added that the al-Sham Legion repels two or three advance attempts a week.

YPG groups are still stationed in outposts in the Afrin area despite the FSA and Turkish Army's takeover of the region in early 2018. Earlier, the Turkish Army transported arrested YPG fighters from Afrin to Turkey.

The YPG launch frequent attacks on the National Army and Turkish Army in the Afrin area, and the National Army and Turkish Army launch arrest campaigns against people accused of affiliating with the YPG.
