Turkey - SMART

On Friday, the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that his country would soon eliminate the "terror nests" in the east of the Euphrates River in Syria.

Speaking at a military ceremony in the Isparta province, Southwestern Turkey, Erdogan said, "We will root out the terror nests in the east of the Euphrates River in Syria soon," in an indication to the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG).

Erdogan did not specify the start date of the military operation that Turkey intends to launch east of the Euphrates.

Different Turkish officials often threaten of a military operation against the YPG and the Syrian Democratic Forces in the east of the Euphrates, in which the US-led International Coalition against the IS is present.

Earlier, Turkey launched two military operations in collaboration with Free Syrian Army factions in Northern Syria; one of the operations against the IS, and the other against the YPG, which Turkey considers a terrorist organization and threatens to eliminate.
