Hama - SMART

On Friday, dozens of civilians organized a sit-in in the village of Sheir Maghar in Jabal Shahshbo, 50 kilometers north of Hama, Central Syria, under the slogan "We will overthrow al-Assad to build the country." The sit-in was also in solidarity with the al-Rukban camp.

One of the participants in the sit-in, Alaa Fattrawi, told SMART that they raised several banners calling on the United Nations and the international community to shoulder its responsibility towards the people of the camp (220 kilometers south of Homs) and to lift the Syrian government's siege on the camp. The civilians also demanded the release of detainees in Syrian government's prisons.

Another participant in the sit-in from the village of Qabar Fidda, Abdul Moein al-Masri, said that the Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad, turned Syria into camps. Therefore, they "can't build the country by his presence."

The Syrian government forces besiege the al-Rukban camp and prevent the entry of basic food and medical supplies after they seized the Syrian-Jordanian border. International parties appealed to facilitate the entry of aid. The Syrian National Coalition demanded to put pressure on the Syrian government to lift the siege.
