Aleppo - SMART

On Friday, the International Coalition against the Islamic State began to conduct joint patrols with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on the Syrian-Turkish border extending from Nahiyat Sheiukh in Northeastern Aleppo, Northern Syria to the city of Tal Abyad in al-Raqqa.

SMART observed four armored military vehicles, including US soldiers participating in the tour.

The translator of the International Coalition patrol reported that this step aims to bring things back to normal on the border between the SDF and Turkey after the events of the last few days.

On Oct. 31, 2018, the Turkish Army shelled two villages west of the Ain al-Arab (Kobani) city, controlled by the SDF, in Aleppo after clashes between the two sides.

The translator explained that the Turkish firing and shelling aimed to put pressure on the SDF to speed up implementation of the Road Map agreement on the city of Manbij.

On Nov. 1, 2018, the Turkish and US armies launched joint patrols in the vicinity of the city of Manbij in Aleppo, as part of the Road Map agreement signed between the two sides.
