Turkey - SMART

The Joint Chiefs of Staff, Joseph Dunford, and his Turkish counterpart, Yasar Guler, discussed the situation in the city of Manbij in Eastern Aleppo, Northern Syria.

In a press statement on Saturday, the Joint Staff spokesman, Patrick Ryder, said that on Friday night, Dunford and Guler discussed the Syrian issue and stressed the need to establish security and stability in the region, according to the Turkish official Anadolu news agency.

Dunford and Guler said that the joint patrols of the Turkish and US armies in the Manbij area are an important step to reduce tensions across the entire Syrian-Turkish border. They stressed the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and achieving a permanent victory over the Islamic State, according to Ryder.

On Thursday, the US President Donald Trump discussed with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan the situation in Manbij and Idlib governorate.

US and Turkish officials call coincided with the Turkish and US armies joint patrols in Manbij, amid the Turkish army's shelling on the Syrian Democratic Forces-controlled areas, and Turkish officials threats to launch large-scale military operations.
