Syria - SMART

On Sunday, the International Coalition and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) patrolled areas controlled by the SDF close to the Turkish border in Aleppo, al-Raqqa, and al-Hasakah Northern and Northeastern Syria.

The SDF are mainly comprised of the Kurdish People's Protection Units in addition to Arab, Turkmen, and Assyrian/Syriac military factions. The SDF are supported by the United States-backed International Coalition against the Islamic State and fought them in al-Raqqa, Deir al-Zor, Aleppo, and al-Hasakah in Northeastern Syria.

An eyewitness reported that an International Coalition patrol made up of three armored vehicles along with an SDF vehicle patrolled the road between the cities of al-Dirbasiyah and Ras al-Ayn in al-Hasakah.

The SDF spokesperson Kino Gabriel reported that the SDF and International Coalition will patrol the cities of Ayn al-Arab (Kobani) in Aleppo, Tal Abyad in al-Raqqa, and Qamishli, al-Malikiyah, al-Dirbasiyah, and Ras al-Ayn in al-Hasakah.

Gabriel added that they patrol the area in response to the Turkish Army's recent attacks on SDF-controlled areas. The Turkish Army attacked SDF outposts eight times last week, according to Gabriel.

The International Coalition and the SDF patrolled the area after Turkey said that Ankara finished preparations to launch military operations in the SDF-controlled areas in Northeastern Syria. The United States Department of State expressed concern about the Turkish attacks in the area in which US soldiers are stationed.
