On Tuesday, the Guardians of Religion faction, which is close to al-Qaeda, bombed Syrian government forces' locations near the Jourin military camp in the Hama countryside, Central Syria, killing a Syrian government forces' officer and injuring eight others.

Local activists said that the Guardians of Religion targeted the al-Mashari' checkpoint north to the village of Jourin with artillery shells, killing a Syrian government forces' officer and injured two others, in addition to wounding six members, one of them has major injuries.

Activists said that this shelling came in retaliation to the Syrian government forces' bombings on villages in the al-Ghab Plain area in Hama. On their Facebook pages, media outlets belonging to the Syrian government published the name of the deceased officer, who was a colonel from the Lattakia governorate, and the names of the eight injured members, including a colonel and a first lieutenant.

The operations room include several Islamist battalions, such as the Guardians of Religion, Ansar al-Tawhid, Ansar al-Islam group, and Ansar al-Din, and was formed in October 2018 in  Northern Syria to retaliate the Syrian government forces' and Russian attacks in the area.

The Syrian government forces also targeted the town of al-Lataminah and the village of Tall Sakher with mortars and heavy machineguns from locations at the al-Masasnah checkpoint and near the Tall al Hamamiyat area, according to activists.

The Guardians of Religion faction, which now belongs to the terrorist al-Qaeda organization, was formed in February 2018 from former members of the Fatah al-Sham Front, formerly known as the al-Nusra Front and recently as the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham.
