Hama - SMART

The Syrian government forces' checkpoints located in the city Hama, Central Syria, raised the amount of fee imposed on civilians to cross the checkpoints by private cars of public transportation.

On Tuesday, local sources told SMART that the Syrian government forces' checkpoints raised the amount of fee imposed on civilians in exchange for passing the checkpoints from 100 Syrian pounds to 500 SYP.

The sources said that the Bilal Square checkpoint belonging to the Syrian government's Air Force Intelligence Service and the Jisr al-Mizrab area checkpoints are forcing the civilians to pay the imposed fee if they do not want their vehicles to be stopped for hours for search and their ID cards to be thoroughly checked.

The sources added that several minibusses' drivers were forced to change their routes and go through side alleys to avoid the checkpoints.

Earlier, the Syrian government forces imposed fees that ranged between one and five thousand SYP on vehicles and civilians passing through the Homs-Hama road.
