Hama - SMART

On Tuesday, the unified council of the Nahiyat al-Ziyara in the al-Ghab Plain in Hama, Central Syria, held a meeting with humanitarian organizations to discuss service projects in the area.

Muhammad Obeid, the media official in the council, reported that they discussed service projects in the sectors of health, education, agriculture, electricity, rehabilitation, and humanitarian aid with civil society organizations and public institutions.

Obeid added that the aim of the meeting was to improve the services in the area and find suitable solutions to the problems that the residents suffer from. Obeid noted that the organizations promised them that they will support these projects.

The unified council of the Nahiyat al-Ziyara includes 16 villages from the village of Zaizoon in the north to the village of al-Ankaw in the south.

The local councils held the meeting due to the lack of support for most of the local councils in the areas controlled by the Free Syrian Army and Islamist battalions in Hama. The lack of support prevented the local administration from implementing necessary service projects.

15,000 civilians in the villages of the Nahiyat al-Ziyara in the Hama governorate suffer from the lack of services, most prominent of which is the lack of drinking water. The civilians also complain about difficulties in education after Syrian government forces and Russian bombings destroyed several schools.
