Al-Hasakah - SMART

On Wednesday, the Kurdish Autonomous Administration reported that it distributed nine million liters of fuel in the city of al-Qamishli and its countryside in the governorate of al-Hasakah, Northeastern Syria.

The Joint Head of the Fuel Administration in al-Qamishli, Rajaa Ismail, reported that the price of one liter of fuel is 50 Syrian pounds in addition to 2 SYP per liter for home delivery. Ismail added that 400 liters of fuel have been distributed to each family as a first distribution.

Ismail said that fuel the distribution began in August, noting that it is not over yet. Ismail stated that they still have to distribute fuel to seven villages in the eastern countryside and a number of neighborhoods in the city of al-Qamishli due to difficulties caused by the absence of committees to organize the distribution.

Ismail also said that they may do another distribution round according to the needs of families and the number of forcibly displaced people in the governorate. Ismail estimated that 21 million liters of fuel was distributed last year.

The Kurdish Autonomous Administration monopolizes the distribution of fuel and sells it to civilians for heating and to farmers for their equipment. The administration also periodically confiscates fuel from traders and sends it to Syrian government-controlled areas.
