Hama - SMART

On Friday night, a Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group killed and injured some Syrian government forces members in an attack on their sites in the Halfaya region, 20 kilometers north of Hama, Central Syria.

The HTS is an Islamist opposition faction previously known as the al-Nusra Front, consisting of fighting groups including the Haqq Brigade, Jabhat Ansar al-Din, and Jaysh al-Sunnah.

HTS media reported that the Red Band group targeted the military operations room of the Syrian government in the village of al-Tarabea, killing about 20 members of the latter. HTS media also said that the attack killed at least one of the HTS fighters.

The Red Band is a group affiliated to the HTS and established in the vicinity of Idlib in late August 2018. It receives intensive military and religious training. The group is called Red Band because its fighters put a red band on their heads in battles.

Syrian government media announced the killing of six Syrian government forces members, including a lieutenant, after "terrorist groups" infiltrated their sites in the region of Halfaya.

HTS media quoted the HTS military wing as calling on the fighters to raise their alert to respond to the killing of 23 Jaysh al-Azza fighters after the Syrian government forces and Iranian militias attacked their sites north of Hama.

According to HTS media, the military wing called on the HTS fighters to avenge the Jaysh al-Azza fighters and to launch raids on the Syrian government, Iranian militias, and Russian forces sites.

Meanwhile, the commander of the Ahrar al-Sham Islamic Movement, Jaber Ali Basha, called on all opposition factions in Northern Syria to prepare for a decisive battle against the Syrian government forces.

The governorate of Idlib and areas of Northern and Western Hama are included in a ceasefire agreement reached by Russia and Turkey last September. The agreement included the establishment of a zone "free of heavy weapons," but Russia considered Thursday that the region is still incomplete and that it is "premature" to talk about Complete the agreement.
