Hama - SMART

On Tuesday, prisoners in the Hama Central Prison delivered their “last appeal” to the residents of the city of Hama, Central Syria, to start a sit-in in solidarity with them.

In a leaked voice recording, one of the prisoners said that honest traders, dignitaries, doctors, engineers, and school and university students should protest in front of the Governorate Building to demand the prisoners’ release.

The prisoners added that the Syrian government mostly cut the Internet in the prison "by 90 percent" and the prisoners cannot easily use social media to communicate with the outside world.

The prisoner ended his appeal saying, "The prison is at risk and the prisoners are a debt on you, the people Abi al-Fidaa," in reference to Hama.

Earlier on Tuesday, a Syrian government delegation headed by Minister of Interior Muhammad al-Shaar met the prisoners in the Hama Central Prison to discuss their demands.

Days ago, 40 prisoners received news that they will be relocated to the Sednaya Military Prison in Rif Dimashq, Southern Syria, to be executed. Among the 40 prisoners are 11 prisoners whom the Syrian government arrested on the background of participating in demonstrations when the Syrian Revolution started in 2011.

On Monday, the prisoners of Hama Central Prison launched an open hunger strike in refusal of the Syrian government’s sentencing.
