Hama - SMART

On Wednesday, an anonymous detainee in the Hama Central Prison, Central Syria, said that the Syrian government forces are trying to prevent them from contacting people outside the prison by jamming phone calls.

The detainee said that that the Syriatel network has not provided any signal in the prison since Tuesday, and the MTN network barely works. The detainee added, "I am now standing near a window and can barely connect to the network."

The detainee believes that the Syrian government installed new communication jammers on the prison's perimeter to prevent news from leaking. On Monday, the prisoners of the Hama Central Prison announced an open hunger strike, rejecting the execution sentences issued against them.

A few days ago, about 40 detainees received news of their relocation to the Saydnaya Central Prison in Rif Dimashq, where 11 of them are sentenced to be executed. The Syrian government arrested the 11 detainees for participating in demonstrations at the beginning of the Syrian Revolution in 2011.
