Al-Raqqa - SMART

On Tuesday, the Initial Response Team (IRT) retrieves ten new bodies from a mass grave and under rubble in the city of al- Raqqa, northeast of Syria.

The IRT forensic expert reported that the IRT retrieved the bodies of two unknown persons from the rubble of destroyed buildings in al-Badou neighborhood.

The source said that the IRT also pulled three bodies out from the rubble in the al-Badou neighborhood and handed them to their families.

The IRT continues to retrieve bodies from mass graves and destroyed buildings in al-Raqqa. The IRT has retrieved 2,620 bodies in the past nine months.

Activists hold the International Coalition, which is led by the United States and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), responsible for killing hundreds of civilians in al-Raqqa. The International Coalition and the SDF bombed al-Raqqa during battles against the Islamic State (IS). The landmines and explosive devices left behind by the IS also killed many civilians in al-Raqqa.
