Al-Raqqa - SMART

Group of residents in the city of al-Raqqa, northeastern  Syria complain about the decision made by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to ban the use of motorcycles inside the city for security reasons.

On Tuesday,  motorcycles trader called Qais al-Aboud told SMART  that the decision would cause him a financial problem, he owned motorcycles worth 25 million Syrian pounds and demanded the concerned parties to pay compensation if the decision would be applied.

Mamdouh Al-Barhou, an owner of a grocery store, added that he relies on the motorcycles in the movement within the city because it is cheaper than a Taxi which cost one thousand Syrian pounds per ride, and this amount on a daily basis exceeds the monthly salary of the employee or worker.

Some residents in al-Raqqa considered this decision unfair and that they are not responsible for the mistakes made by fugitives or terrorists, at the same time they called for demonstrations in the city of al-Raqqa next Saturday to protest against the SDF decision.

The city of Al-Riqqa contains thousands of motorcycles, which are the primary means of transportation for most people. The Syrian Democratic Forces justify the decision by stating it is because of the frequent use of motorcycles by unknown persons in the bombing and attack civilians in the city.

The decision coincided with the recipient of the municipality of the people" in the city of al- Raqqa, many internal transport buses provided by the al-Raqqa local council.
