Daraa - SMART

Unknown persons return to write slogans against the Syrian government on walls in the town of Muzayrib in the governorate of Daraa, Southern Syria.

On Wednesday, eyewitnesses reported that unknown persons wrote several slogans on the walls of some streets and schools reading, "It is your turn, doctor," "People demand the overthrow of the regime," and "Death but no disgrace."

Eyewitnesses added that the Syrian government forces, after seizing Daraa by reconciliating with the opposition forces, removed the writings against the Syrian government. The Syrian government forces replaced the writings with slogans loyal to them and added greetings to the al-Namer Militia and the 4th Division.

A few months ago, the opposition factions in Daraa reached a reconciliation agreement with Russia, calling for a ceasefire and handing over of the opposition's weapons. The agreement also required the evacuation of those who rejected it to Northern Syria, and guarantees for those who remained that they would not be persecuted.

In 2011, unknown persons wrote slogans against the Syrian government on the walls of a school in Daraa. The Syrian government arrested and tortured a number of students in reponse, and killed one of them, whose name was Hamza al-Khatib. The rest of the students were released later. This incident was considered the first spark of the Syrian revolution, where peaceful demonstrations broke out, calling for the overthrow of the Syrian regime.
