Al-Raqqa - SMART

Heavy rain in Western al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria, destroys an agricultural bridge and damages tents belonging to forcibly displaced people (FDP).

On Thursday, FDP in camps near the village of al-Jayef, Western al-Raqqa, reported that the rain damaged 13 tents on Wednesday night. The Concern Worldwide gave them alternative tents as an emergency solution.

An employee of Concern Worldwide said that they provided emergency aid to the FDP in the camps and gave them tents. The employee stated that the heavy rain damaged about 10 tents.

A local source from the village of al-Ansar reported that a nearby river swelled with the heavy rain, causing an agricultural bridge to collapse. The road that links the villages of al-Ansar, al-Abbasiyah, al-Rafiqa, Ajaj and Mazraat al-Rashid was closed as a result.

The source stated that the agricultural bridge was built out of dirt and stones and supported by concrete pipes. The source added that they informed the municipal committees of the al-Raqqa civil council, which will fix the bridge when the water level decreases.

The al-Jayef camp administration announced that the camp is a disaster zone due to the neglect of humanitarian organizations at the advent of winter. The FDP in the al-Sadd camp in Southern al-Hasakah also complained about the absence of humanitarian organizations.
