Deir al-Zor- SMART

On Monday, civilians in the city of al-Shifaah (115 kilometers east of  Deir al-Zor) eastern Syria, which is under the control of the Islamic State (IS), complain about the lack of food and medicines and high prices due to the siege imposed by Syrian democratic forces (SDF).

On Monday, a local source told SMART that the price of one kilogram of flour reached six thousand Syrian pounds, sugar reached five thousand Syrian pounds, while the price of one kilogram of tomatoes and cucumbers reached 1500 Syrian pounds.

The source added that the city of al-Shifaah suffers from an absolute lack of medicines and its high price, where the price of painkillers  (Bandol, Brufen ...) reached 1500 pounds.

Islamic State (IS) signed an agreement with Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to release 11 civilian prisoners including a member of the SDF and to hand over the bodies to SDF. In return SDF would allow 16 truckloads of food and medical supplies to enter al-Shifaah town, however, IS has retreated from implementing the terms of the agreement and added new conditions.

On October 31, 2018, the SDF halted military operations against the IS in the Deir al-Zor governorate due to Turkish Army shootings and shelling on SDF-controlled areas east of the Euphrates River.
