Hama - SMART

Relatives of detainees in the Hama Central Prison, Central Syria, canceled a sit-in in the al-Assi Square to demand the release of the detainees due to the Syrian government security grip in the city streets.

On Friday, eyewitnesses reported that the Syrian government forces and the Shabiha militia, accompanied by vehicles with heavy machine guns were deployed to the al-Assi Square near the governorate council building in the city center and the roads leading to it.

The eyewitnesses said that forces loyal the Syrian government forces' colonel Suhail al-Hassan, also known as al-Nimer, and military police members were patrolling the city streets to prevent any sit-ins. The Syrian government also deployed about 50 security forces members in buses on the perimeter of the al-Ba'ath Party new headquarter near the al-Hader Street in the Hama city center.

The forces spread in the city followed invitations by the detainees in the Hama Central Prions for a sit-in to demand their release, amidst poor connection inside the prison, according to the eyewitnesses.

The detainees' relatives appealed to international organizations to put pressure on the Syrian government to prevent it from sending their relatives to the Saydnaya Military Prison in Rif Dimashq, Southern Syria.

A few days ago, about 40 detainees received news of their relocation to the Saydnaya Central Prison in Rif Dimashq, where 11 of them will be executed. The Syrian government arrested the detainees for participating in a demonstration at the beginning of the Syrian Revolution in 2011.
