Aleppo - SMART

On Sunday, the Free Syrian Army launched a security campaign in the city of Afrin, 43 kilometers north of Aleppo, Northern Syria, against the Shuhadaa al-Sharqiyah faction.

Hisham Askif, the deputy head of the political bureau of the Free Syrian Army's Liwa al-Salam faction, told SMART that the National Army and the military police launched the campaign to pursue a group of outlaw gangs at the request of the military judiciary.

Askif added that the campaign is in the interest of rebuilding the infrastructure in the region and that it does not require any concern.

A local source told SMART that the Liwa al-Salam faction imposed a curfew in the city after heavy gunfire was heard in the Villa Street, where the Shuhadaa al-Sharqiyah faction is located.

The local source added that a commander in the faction known as Abu Malik told the Staff Command that they are in their headquarters and deny the theft accusations against them and demand a court hearing.

Abu Malek added that the faction handed over their weapons to the Staff Command, but he returned them because of the lack of evidence of wrongdoing.

Robbers and kidnapping gangs have been spreading in areas controlled by the Syrian government forces in Northern and Western Syria for months, and military members have committed violations against people, medical staff, humanitarian organizations and activists.
