Hama - SMART

Detainees in the Hama Central Prison, Central Syria, called on the Syrian government to allow them to meet with the Russian envoy at the Hmeimim military air base.

On Monday, a special source reported that the detainees met with a Syrian government delegation, including the interior minister and the prison director, and asked to meet with Russian officials in the Hmeimim base to inform them of the detainees' demands. The detainees did not recive any response.

The detainees appealed to all Syrians to acknowledge their misery and demands to the international community and humanitarian and legal organizations, according to the source.

Earlier, a Russian delegation canceled a visit to the Hama Prison to meet and negotiate with the prisoners, who continue their hunger strike for the seventh day.

The prisoners called for sit-ins to demand their release, while their families canceled a sit-in in the al-Assi Square fearing arrests by the Syrian government. The prisoners' families appealed to humanitarian organizations to put pressure on the Syrian government to prevent sending them to the Saydnaya Military Prison in Rif Dimashq, Southern Syria.

A few days ago, about 40 detainees received news of their relocation to the Saydnaya Central Prison in Rif Dimashq, where 11 of them will be executed. The Syrian government arrested the detainees for participating in a demonstration at the beginning of the Syrian Revolution in 2011. After these news, the detainees announced an open sit-in in the prison.
