Al-Sharqiyah Martyrs faction promises to retaliate attacks by National Army factions

On Monday, the al-Sharqiyah Martyrs faction stated that it has left the city of Afrin, 43 kilometers north of Aleppo, Northern Syria, to avoid bloodshed after the security campaign that targeted the faction. The al-Sharqiyah Martyrs promised to resume battles against the factions that attacked it.

On Sunday, the National Army of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) launched a security campaign against the al-Sharqiyah Martyrs, whose commander escaped to the Idlib governorate. Families of the faction’s fighters escaped to the Jindayris area in western Afrin after a ceasefire agreement.

The al-Sharqiyah Martyrs stated that its fighters exited Afrin proudly, adding that they did not surrender, but left the city to avoid bloodshed.   

The faction also stated that they killed more than 25 National Army fighters and injured dozens, and lost 13 fighters.

The National Army factions gained control of the al-Sharqiyah Martyrs' headquarters in the Villa Street in Afrin amidst ongoing clashes to gain control of the remaining headquarters in the region. The National Army faction suspended the clashes for a short period in order to evacuate families from the area.

During the clashes, the National Army imposed a curfew in Afrin. In addition to the fighters, at least six civilians were injured, one of whom is in a critical condition.
