Security forces arrest two person on charge of promoting drugs in al-Raqqa

Al-Raqqa - SMART

On Tuesday, the al-Raqqa internal security forces arrested two people in the city of al-Raqqa, Northeastern  Syria, on charges of promoting drugs.

Private sources told SMART that members of the Internal Security Forces (ISF) raided an apartment in the al-Edikhar neighborhood in the city, where they arrested two people and found narcotics drugs with them. The sources did not provide information on the names or quantity of the material they found.

This comes as part of a campaign of internal security forces to fight drugs in the area, meanwhile, activists accuse Syrian Democratic Forces ( SDF) of trading and promoting drugs in the city of al-Raqqa.

Earlier, the People's Protection Units (YPG) arrested two people near the town of Hazima,15 kilometers, Northern al- Raqqa on charges of smuggling weapons and drugs.

The YPG is a predominantly Kurdish military faction in Syria that controls areas in al-Raqqa, al-Hasakah, and Aleppo. The YPG fights the Islamic State and is supported by the International Coalition. 

 The Syrian democratic forces and the Kurdish autonomous administration forces regularly arrest youths in areas controlled by the Autonomous administration, Northeastern Syria on charges of smuggling weapons and drugs, affiliating with the Islamic State (IS), contacting the Syrian government, or even for compulsory recruitment.
