Turkey - SMART

On Sunday, Iraqi forces targeted Islamic State (IS)-controlled areas in Eastern Deir al-Zor near the Iraqi-Syrian border with heavy artillery.

In a statement published on its official Facebook page, the Iraqi Ministry of Defense said that Iraqi heavy artillery and French and United States forces from the International Coalition targeted IS locations in the al-Sahm military camp near the Iraqi-Syrian border in an operation called "Last Warning."

The Iraqi Ministry of Defense added that the shelling aimed to prevent IS members from moving into Iraqi territory.

The ministry broadcasted a video showing smoke rising from a shelling site, without mentioning how many IS members were killed.

On Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, Iraqi warplanes raided the IS-controlled town of al-Sousah and village of al-Baghouz al-Foqani in Eastern Deir al-Zor.

Iraqi warplanes and heavy artillery regularly target IS-controlled areas, and the Iraqi Popular Mobilization militia sent reinforcements to the Iraqi-Syrian border and the Syrian Democratic Forces clashed with the IS in the area.
